Awarded by Newsweek in partnership with Statista—a global research and data firm—this accolade highlights the most responsible corporations in America today. For the second year, the Hawker Powersource, Inc. parent company, EnerSys, made the grade.
Judged primarily along three key metrics for corporate responsibility—Environmental, Social, and Governance—this award recognizes integrity and the innovations that make the world a better place.
In receiving this award, we couldn’t be in better company alongside Merck & Co, Cisco Systems, General Mills, and Microsoft. As global leaders in lithium-ion and Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) batteries, our technology speaks to our environmental commitment and our dedication to powering the supply chain intelligently.
Energy Efficiency Initiative of the Year Award 2023
Since 1999, the news and analysis service Environmental Finance has reported on groundbreaking companies and sustainable corporate practices. As part of their mission, Environmental Finance chooses one company each year to receive its Energy Efficiency Initiative award.
In 2023, a panel of 40 investors and industry experts chose Hawker Powersource, Inc. parent company, EnerSys. The deciding factor for the judges was the EnerSys Operating System (EOS)—a lean management program designed to identify, reduce, or eliminate excess waste and associated costs across operations.
EOS is a resounding demonstration of our commitment to sustainability and efficiency. By making simple changes here and there (such as replacing cardboard boxes with wooden crates), we’ve produced less waste, implemented conservation practices, and lowered operating expenses.
But the EOS is more than just a handful of clever decisions—it’s quickly become a primary driver of company culture, a question on everyone’s mind about how we do better, be more responsible, and create a brighter future.
U.S. Department of Energy Better Practice Award 2023
In addition to the Energy Efficiency Initiative Award, the HAWKER® Richmond, Kentucky Manufacturing facility was also acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Energy with their Better Practice Award for practices stemming from the EOS lean management program.
As a framework for continuous improvement, our lean management system touches everyone in the organization—our employees, our shareholders, and our customers. We’ve made doing the right thing integral to doing business, and the Department of Energy recognized the impact we’re making.
Award winners must demonstrate industry-leading accomplishments in several sustainable verticals, including decarbonization, energy efficiency, water efficiency, and waste reduction. But simply making these changes isn’t enough to put you on the shortlist.
Responsible company practices must be of a certain magnitude, must be replicable across the organization, and must foster health, wellness, diversity, and community engagement.
